# Transfer sub-entity funds

If you're on the `Full` account type, you can initiate a transfer to recoup funds from a sub-entity, return funds from a refund, or cover the difference when running a promotion.

You can transfer funds between different entity levels and between currency accounts that hold the same currency. Transfers between two sub-entities are not accepted.

## Before you start

Ensure that your sub-entities are onboarded and successfully processing payments.

## Request a transfer in the Dashboard

1. Sign in to the [Dashboard](https://dashboard.checkout.com).
2. Go to _Sub-entities_.
3. Select a sub-entity. The _Activity_ page opens, which displays the sub-entity's balances and recent activity.
4. In the _Transferred_ tab, select _Request transfer_.
5. Select whether you want to transfer funds to or from the sub-entity.
6. Select either the source or destination of the transfer from the drop-down.
7. Specify the amount to transfer.
8. Select a reason for the transfer.
9. Optionally, you can enter your reference for the transfer.
9. Select _Transfer funds_.

## Request a transfer using the API

Call the [Initiate a transfer of funds](https://api-reference.checkout.com/tag/Transfers/#operation/createTransfer) endpoint.

In the request body, provide the following:

- `transfer_type` - The type of transfer – This can be one of: `commission`, `promotion`, or `refund`.
- `source.id` - The sending sub-entity's ID
- `source.amount` - The amount to transfer
- `destination.id` - The receiving sub-entity's ID

The status is `pending` until the transfer is confirmed. You can subscribe to the [Transfer status changed](https://www.checkout.com/docs/developer-resources/event-notifications/event-types/transfer_status_changed.md) webhook to be notified when the status changes.
